If you are looking for a blooming shrub that gives and gives with not much care or attention by you, than Vitex is your plant. TheVitex agnus-castus, also known as the Chaste Tree has beautiful, fragrant lilac like blooms most of the summer. This plant thrives in heat and lots of sun, so one to consider if you have a planting area near lots of concrete or asphalt where reflected or amplified heat can be a problem. The Vitex is fast growing to 15 to 20 feet or so, but feel free to clip to desired size and shape. With its durability and growth rate, consider for mass planting along a property line to hide a view. Attracting butterflies is one more reason to fill that last open spot in your landscape plan with such a durable, yet attractive shrub. Consistent water. Hardy to USDA zone 5 and higher.
