Tydeman's Late Orange Apple is a richly flavored, connoisseurs' favorite. This apple variety is more productive and easier to grow than Cox Orange Pippin, with much lower incidence of cracking, and fruit with consistently better flavor and quality in hot summer areas. The tydeman's orange apple has reddish orange stripes over greenish yellow ground color, with some russeting. This apple will treat you to flesh that is yellowish in color, firm and juicy. The Tydeman's is harvested late September into October in central California, and keeps well. This apple tree is small but vigorous, with long weeping branches that require thinning to prevent alternate bearing. Disease resistant. The Tydeman's Orange is an excellent choice for colder locations, needing 800 to 1000 hours chilling. Pollinator needed, such as Gala, Fuji, Yellow Delicious or Granny Smith. Shipped potted in soil to ensure the best possible start when planted in yard or orchard.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can you tell me about the rootstock your apple trees are grafted on to?
This apple selection is grafted on M-111, which is an excellent all around rootstock for apples. It tolerates both wet and dry soil, as well as poor soil, and also resists wooly apple aphid and collar rot. M-111 induces bearing at a young age. Un-pruned tree height for trees on M-111 is 80-90% of standard, or about 15 to about 25 feet. Apple trees on M-111 may be held to any desired height by summer pruning.
