Tasmanian tree fern will offer the shade garden many possibilities, its slower growth rate allowing its use in areas more on the small side, and when planted with other blooming shrubs or perennials, an impressive tropical effect can be accomplished. As the Tasmanian tree fern grows, clip off lower branches to begin exposing the ‘trunk’, its unique colors and hairy fibers looking pretty neat. Add seasonal annuals for an extended pop of color. This fern is hardy to USDA zone 9 and higher, but can be used in slightly colder areas if planted under overhangs or really close to buildings where it could pick up extra warmth. Plant in full to partial shade and keep soil moist. Shipped potted in soil for best possible results when planted in yard or garden.
