The Sharp Velvet pomegranate will surprises you with a very appealing taste sensation that is refreshing, as the tangy flavors are mellowed to a soft finish, the delicious juices sliding down your throat. Tantalizing! The fruit on this pomegranate variety has a dark red exterior and dark colored seeds giving the appearance of crushed red velvet. The Sharp Velvet bears heavily, with fruit that can be used fresh or in cooking. Remember that pomegranates are high in antioxidants. Fresh pomegranates are also highly ornamental, giving many more possibilities for the tree. The Sharp Velvet grows to about 8 to 10 feet tall, or clip to desired height. Pomegranates love full hot sun, and need very little maintenance. Keep consistently moist till established. Hardy to USDA zone 7 and all higher zones. Pomegranate “Sharp Velvet” only needs 150 to 200 hours chilling, and ripens October. We ship our fruit trees potted in soil all year long to ensure a healthier start when planted in orchard or garden.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can you tell me about some of these newer pomegranate varieties? Haven't heard of them before.... The only one I see in the market is Wonderful.
If you have room for two, I usually like to suggest a 'sweet' variety and one a bit more tangy, just to mix up the flavor profiles. Pink Satin has edible seeds and juice described as "…sweet with a fruit punch like flavor." Pair it with Sharp Velvet described as "...refreshing with a tangy flavor that mellows to a soft finish." Both are packed with antioxidants, so both are great additions to a healthy diet.

Anything else?
Pomegranates are tough, doing quite well in full hot sun. Don't forget the blueberries. Plant one in a container for sweet delicious taste and lots of antioxidants close by.
