The Red Dragon Japanese Maple tree is a new, superior maple from New Zealand. The foliage on this Japanese maple variety is deeply cut, with purple red leaves having a distinctly different texture than other dissectum varieties. The red dragon keeps its reddish coloration longer throughout the summer, keeping a more vivid coloration than the more common Crimson Queen Acer. Slow growing to only 4 to 5 feet in many years or clip to shape. Acer palmatum “Red Dragon” makes an excellent container plant on shady porch or entry way. Works well in Japanese gardens planted with bright green ground cover like baby tears or any of the mosses.
