Pinot Noir grapes are grown around the world, mostly in cooler regions, with the grape chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. Pinot Noir is widely considered to produce some of the finest wines, so a good one to add to your collection. The name is derived from the French words for "pine" and "Black" alluding to the varietals' tightly clustered dark purple pine cone shaped bunches of fruit. Pinot grapes need warm days and cool nights for optimum growth. This grape is hardy to USDA zone 7 and all higher zones, and will do fine with partial to full sun. Do give this fast growing vine something to climb on, enjoying the foliage in the season as well as the fruit, with the decorative and gnarled branch structure over time attractive in the winter.
