The New Zealand Tea Tree, also known as Leptospermum are woody shrubs that provide an early season splash of color. Plant a Lepto' as they are often called as a background shrub...meaning one you can forget after it gets established, a plant requiring minimal care. Then after you've put the plant out of your mind, here comes the cheery display of color, just when you need a little shot of yes, spring is just around the corner. The New Zealand Tea tree usually ends up around chest to eye level, depending on the variety and how much you clip. They prefer at least half day sun and consistent water, but watch making the soil too squishy with too much water. Hardy to the mid 20'°s or so, maybe a little lower if the cold is of short duration. Cut the branches when in bloom, as they make a good accent in floral bouquets. Shipped potted in soil for best results when planted in yard, garden or container.
