The right plant in the shade garden can really give it a soothing and comforting atmosphere, with ferns offering something not too many plants can....a nice textural effect, one that makes a great back drop for blooming shrubs or seasonal perennials. The Lace fern, also known as Microlepia can reach 24 to 36 inches tall, large enough to be viewed from behind a moss covered boulder or small garden accent, yet small enough to be used in most shade or garden beds. The fronds are soft and delicate, with the overall effect of the lace fern being one of a clumping nature. Use freely in the garden, as this fern species can take some cold (going dormant), or remaining evergreen in warmer climates. Be sure to provide some shade in warmer climates. Hardy to the low 20's°. Shipped potted in soil to ensure the best possible start when planted in yard or garden.
