The Ice cream banana plant produces fresh bananas that are medium sized and delicious, used either fresh or cooked. Yes, they do taste like ice cream. The peel of the fruit is silvery blue before ripening, revealing fruit that is pure white on the inside. This banana variety will thrive in either partial shade or full sun, growing to about 14 to 18 feet, so give it plenty of room. Bananas can be grown indoors. The Ice cream banana produces heavily, but takes about 18 to 20 months to finish the fruit, so patience is needed. It is a self fertile variety hardy to about 28°. Though the foliage can freeze back and return the following spring, the plant does need to stay frost free to give the fruit a chance to fully ripen and size up. Shipped potted in soil to ensure a healthier start when planted in yard or garden. Tree ships about 4 feet tall.
