Heliotrope arborescens 'Iowa' is an excellent sun loving shrubby perennial at home in virtually any flower bed, and is a rich source of fragrant purple flowers. Heliotrope is most attractive massed in small groups of three or five. Line up a few as an edging, or use its compact foliage to cloak the legs of taller shrubs or vines. This must have perennial thrives in full to partial sun, and is moderate growing to about 1.5 to close to 3 feet tall if not clipped. Enjoy the aromatic flowers spring through summer. Contrast the Heliotrope's deep purple flowers with the gray and white of variegated licorice plant (Helichrysum petiolare `Variegatum) or the yellow blooms of the Moonbeam Coreopsis. Hardy to USDA zone 9 and all higher zones, so pull into protection if you live in a colder location. Shipped potted in soil to ensure the best possible start when planted in yard or garden.
