Round out your food garden by planting an artichoke; a perfect compliment to go with your fruit trees and other vegetables. The "Green Globe" artichoke is a big, ferny looking plant with irregular, somewhat fountain like form to about 4 feet high, spreading to around 6 feet across if allowed to fully stretch out. The leaves are silvery green. If kept frost free, big flower buds will form at the top of stalks....these are the artichokes you cook and eat. If not cut, these buds open into awesome looking purple/blue, 6 inch thistle like flowers that are quite striking. These can be even cut for flower arrangements. Drought tolerant if you are not interested in a crop, so keep moist if you desire more than just the rugged looking foliage. Artichokes can succeed in the desert if offered afternoon shade. Shipped potted in soil to ensure the best possilbe start when planted in yard or garden.
