If you enjoy gardenia plants and live out of 'typical' gardenia country, do not despair, as the "Frostproof" Gardenia by Monrovia growers may just be your answer. This little beauty has shiny green leaves and very fragrant flowers like all gardenias, but takes more direct sun than other varieties and the flower buds resist late spring frosts without damage. Use the Frost proof gardenia like any other....in containers, as an accent in the shade garden or even allow to hedge, its slower growth rate to only 5 feet tall keeps the clippers on the shelf and out of your hands. Flowers are 2 to 3 inches. Plant in loose, rich soil for best results and keep consistently moist, not soggy or dry. Deer resistant. Your new garden addition will be shipped potted in soil for best possible results. Hardy to USDA zone 7 and all higher zones.
