Fan Cris pears are medium to large, bell shaped. Your fresh fruit will be sweet with creamy texture, yet a nice crunch when you bite into it. The Fan Cris is an excellent dessert pear, and somewhat resistant to blight. This pear variety is very productive, ripening August into September. Since the fireblight pathogen is a bacteria and not a fungus, most garden fungicides will have minimal effect at best. The copper spray applied to most fruit trees in the winter will slow it down and give partial control.
Good pruning and sound sanitation techniques....keep old pears and leaves raked up over the winter, as this is where the trouble over winters just to start the process over again the following spring.
