Venture out and be bold! Try something different, as the Fukushu kumquat is one you may not have heard much about, but one that is pretty good in its own right. We now have the Fukushu on dwarf root stock, so one gardeners with limited space can now consider. The dwarf fukushu would do excellent in container on balcony or deck for those in urban settings with no yard. Fruit that is a bit larger and a little more rounded than Nagami is one of the first things you'll notice. This kumquat variety has fruit that is oval and about one and one-half inches long, with a rind that is orange and thinner than Nagami or Meiwa. The soft peel on the Fukushu is sweet and edible, with the fruit juicy and refreshing. These kumquats have only a few seeds, with orange acidic flesh and 5-8 segments. The fruit from this kumquat variety is the first to ripen, usually starting between Oct and March, and most readily available for early Chinese New Years. Clip to any desired size or shape. Shipped as a potted specimen for best possible results when planted in yard or garden.
