Camellia chansonette is a sasanqua type offering boldly colored flowers mid season, October to early December. Sasanqua camellias offer greater cold resistance, hardy to USDA zone 7 and higher, so feel free to use this shade garden standout in climates not always associated with Japonica camellias. Chansonette camellia has a spreading habit growing to only 2-3 feet tall, so one you can mass plant in front of other taller growing evergreens. An excellent choice for a colorful low hedge, espalier, or ground cover due to its short, pendulous habit and its far reaching spread to about 8 feet wide or clip to shape. Chansonette would be a great addition to an Asian inspired garden or planted in mass at the front fringe of a woodland setting. This camellia variety would be perfect for hanging baskets or pots.
