Enjoy its bold and beautiful foliage for a nice change of pace from the more common asparagus or sword fern. The young fronds have a coppery red color giving a little contrast against the more mature green colored leaves. Effective when used along a shady pathway or to accent Japanese maple trees. The Autumn fern is a shorter growing fern to only 1.5 to 2 feet tall and about 18 inches wide, spreading by underground stems. Keep soil consistently moist. Hardy to USDA zone 5. Herbaceous.
