The 'Akebono' Flowering Cherry tree sport fluffy clouds of delicate pink flowers in the spring. They are a brighter tint of pink than the flowers of the better-known and more widely planted Yoshino Cherry, made famous by its annual blossom display in Washington, D.C. Akebono Flowering Cherry is similar in growth habit to Yoshino as well, but is said to mature at a slightly smaller height and spread. This variety of flowering cherry has a shape that is upright and spreading, reaching about 25 feet in height and spread at maturity or clip to shape. Use in lawns, in large shrub beds, or as an accent tree. Foliage is medium green and turns yellow in the fall. Hardy to USDA zone 4. Shipped as a potted five gallon tree in its original soil and container. Photo used courtesy of MGShelton. www.flickr.com/people/melindashelton/
Should be no problem. Just be sure to either cut a bit of grass away so the bark won't be damaged by the mower, or place a plastic trunk protector around the base of the tree.
